2021 Singapore and Spalding Summer School

The Spalding & Singapore Summer School is for current and new to Great Hearts students who would benefit from remedial work with experienced Great Hearts teachers.

Current Scholars:

SPALDING- Students will review their understanding of Spalding phonograms through daily OPR (Oral Phonogram Review) and WPR (Written Phonogram Review). Students will set up a Spalding notebook to practice frequently misspelled words, rules, and markings for the previous grade level Ayer’s List. Teachers will challenge students to improve letter formation through daily practice of manuscript and cursive handwriting. Students will also work on reading fluency and decoding to improve overall accuracy and comprehension.

SINGAPORE MATH- Students will use the CPA model (Concrete-Pictorial-Abstract) to deeply explore the "why" behind challenging math concepts foundational to the previous year's level. Students will practice basic math facts and explore concepts like number sense, number bonds, place value, word problems, math computation, mental math, fractions, and geometry.

FAQ:

Should I sign my student up for both weeks? While the lesson plans for both weeks will be the same, our teachers will assess those students returning for a second week to ensure they are placed in the best group to meet their needs. Some students may benefit from a second week to master the same material while other students would benefit from a more rigorous challenge.

Can my student stay all day? Yes, while Summer School is only a half-day program, students attending Summer School can register for the afternoon of Summer Camp as an add-on item. Lunch is not provided, so those staying will need to pack a lunch and an afternoon snack.

Classes run for four hours: 8:15am-12:15pm. Drop-off begins at 7:45am.

Space is limited! Openings will be filled on a first-come, first-served basis. Reserve your space by signing up online now.

Special note- those attending Summer School in the morning may attend Summer Camp in the afternoon for a discounted price.

Registration Deadlines:

Registration closes at 12:00pm on the dates listed below for each week. No late registrations will be accepted.
